Tx-Rails for Mining & Minerals
A cryptographic audit substrate for the entire pit-to-port chain — explorers, miners, processors, smelters, hauliers, port authorities, regulators, royalty authorities, ESG raters, insurers — without forcing any of them onto a single platform.
Mining is the audit problem at every stage of the value chain. A tonne of ore leaves a pit-bottom drill, gets blasted, hauled to a ROM pad, crushed, ground, concentrated, smelted, shipped — and at every handover a different counterparty needs cryptographic evidence of provenance, grade, mass, and integrity. A royalty authority needs to verify what was extracted. A securities regulator needs JORC- or NI 43-101-compliant resource statements that can be independently audited. A downstream customer running EV-battery supply-chain due diligence needs proof that no conflict-mineral content entered the stream. A tailings-dam regulator needs continuous evidence that pore-pressure sensors weren’t switched off the day before a failure. An Indigenous community needs verifiable evidence that consent conditions are being honoured. An insurer underwriting a $3B haul-truck fleet needs telemetry that survives the loss adjuster’s natural scepticism.
Every one of these audit obligations lands on operational data that already exists — fleet-management systems, OPC-UA streams from the concentrator, geotechnical sensor arrays on the tailings facility, dispatch logs from the haul road, weighbridge tickets at the port. Tx-Rails sits underneath these incumbent systems and turns their outputs into a tamper-evident, jurisdiction-independent record that every counterparty in the chain can verify without trusting any single operator’s database.

The 30 federations
A junior explorer in a frontier jurisdiction, a Tier-1 iron-ore producer, a copper smelter on another continent, and a tailings-storage-facility engineer-of-record in a third — they do not belong on the same database, and they cannot afford to. Each domain gets its own sovereign federation, with its own member set, its own data scope, its own cross-checks — interoperating through Tx-Rails’ shared underlay.

- tx-rails-minerals-audit-compliance — independent auditors, JORC / NI 43-101 competent persons + qualified persons, ICMM assurance providers, ESG raters. Cryptographic verification of any claim sourced from the underlay, without privileged access to the auditee’s primary systems.

What the underlay guarantees
Every event written to any of these 30 federations carries the same four properties, enforced cryptographically rather than contractually:
- Tamper-evidence at the row level. Every record is bound into a Merkle slab. Slab roots anchor to Hedera Consensus Service every 24 blocks, giving you a public, jurisdiction-independent timestamp that you can verify with a single hash and no privileged access. Critical when the dispute is over what a sensor read three years ago.
- Multi-tenant isolation by entnum Each member organisation operates within its own enterprise number. A Tier-1 producer, its EPC contractor, its independent TSF engineer-of-record, its assay lab, and its royalty authority all share a federation but no shared-credentials path — the trust boundary is enforced at the gateway, not at the database.
- 149 cross-checks per transaction. Tx-Rails’ ChubbyChecker audit subsystem runs 149 integrity verifications on every transaction and every block, on independent BFT replicas with no shared failure domain with the workload nodes. If a compromised server count exceeds the BFT threshold, the audit mesh detonates the network rather than silently producing incorrect outputs.
- No data sovereignty give-up. Each federation’s data stays in the jurisdiction it was generated in. Cross-jurisdictional verifiability comes from the Merkle anchor on Hedera, not from data movement. A regulator in Western Australia, a smelter in Korea, and an offtaker in Switzerland verify the same chain of custody on the same audit trail without any of them moving the underlying data.
How you integrate
Tx-Rails is a substrate, not a replacement. You connect to the federations your organisation belongs to via one of four modes:
The four modes
| Mode | What customer does | Metadata fidelity | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. Hash-only | Nothing; tx-rails computes row-hash from CDC | 22 / 31 fields, no semantic intent | Low-stakes flows where the audit just needs “this row existed at time T” |
| B. CDC observation | Adds Debezium / equivalent to their DB; nothing in the app | 25–27 / 31 (CRUD intent from CDC; user/role IF the customer’s table has audit columns) | Mid-stakes flows; most existing apps that already write created_by / modified_by to their rows |
| C. Gateway-mediated | Routes API traffic through the tx-rails gateway; app unchanged | 30 / 31 (gateway sees the HTTP method, the JWT, the body — derives semantic intent from path + verb) | High-value flows; new app deployments where touching the network edge is cheap |
| D. SDK / atomic dual-write | App calls tx-rails alongside its own DB write | 31 / 31 with explicit semantic intent | The very-high-value flows where the customer wants explicit REVERSAL / CORRECTION / RESTATEMENT tagging |
A junior explorer can run Hash-only against its drill-hole database, a Tier-1 miner can run Atomic dual-write through its dispatch + processing + ESG stack, and a state regulator can run CDC-observer across every operator in its jurisdiction — all interoperable on the same underlay.

What this unlocks
- JORC / NI 43-101 statements that survive forensic challenge. Every grade, every tonnage, every quality-control assay, every block-model parameter is traceable to a verifiable chain of custody. A competent person can sign with cryptographic backing, not reputational backing.
- Royalty payments that can’t be disputed years later. Production tonnes + grades at the point of measurement, bound to a Hedera-anchored timestamp. State + traditional-owner royalty calculations replay deterministically.
- Tailings-facility evidence that the regulator can verify continuously. Pore-pressure, piezometer, inclinometer, freeboard, ITRB review records — captured immutably, anchored externally, replayable on demand. The Brumadinho post-mortem found tampered records; this is the structural fix.
- Battery + critical-minerals supply chains with cryptographic provenance. Cobalt, lithium, nickel, copper, rare-earth elements traced from pit through processing through customer with EU Battery Regulation + US IRA-grade audit evidence.
- Insurance loss adjustment based on verified telemetry. A haul-truck-fleet BI claim, a tailings-failure liability claim, a weather-event parametric claim — settled against an audit trail the insurer can verify without on-site forensics.
- M&A diligence without forensic data dumps. A buyer’s diligence team replays an asset’s operating history from the cryptographic record, not from the seller’s slide deck.

Where we are
Tx-Rails is shipping today as the underlay for a UK housing pilot and an Australian R&D programme; the **`tx-rails-minerals-*`** federations above are the production-target taxonomy for the mining vertical. Charter-member discussions are open with producers, smelters, port operators, royalty authorities, ESG raters, and independent technical-review boards in AU, UK, EU, and South America. If your organisation is one of those — or a state regulator looking for cryptographic visibility into the operators you oversee — we want to hear from you.
